What we do
The non-profit organization Campo Base Onlus –working from Castel Campo in Trentino, Italy- is dedicated to creating meaningful and inclusive projects for people touched by illness or psychosocial challenges. Our programs aim to address marginalization and isolation that are a result of suffering and ill-health by facilitating self-discovery through fun and engaging summer camps and retreats.
We believe in the power of play, in the force behind community and the benefits that the rhythms of nature can offer adults and children alike.
We aim to create empowering programs that encourage growth, self-esteem and a to generate a network of care for all our participants and their families.
Why camp?
Our programs are based on the principals of Therapeutic Recreation– a technique that encourages empowerment and discovery (or rediscovery) of one’s own abilities through attainable success and experiential learning.
The objective is to encourage children and teens towards autonomy, whilst giving adults an opportunity to connect with peers and build tools they can take back to their homes with them. One of these is the power of play– often suppressed because of the complexity of the illness management for patients and their families. Because the activities of the organization are executed in collaboration with fully equipped medical staff that can see to the specific needs of participants and/or qualified psychological support, Campo Base is able to provide a safe space in which children and adults are free to enjoy themselves.
A very important part of our activities involves our relationship with nature. Because spending time outdoors is not always a feasible option for our guests when they are back at home, we are committed to weaving this regenerative opportunity into their stay.
The other fundamental element that we strive for is community building – encouraging meaningful exchange between participants and facilitating team strengthening activities for adults and children alike.
