Paediatric Palliative Care Tour of Italy

Thanks to the organizational support of Fondazione Hospice Trentino Onlus, Associazione Campo Base – Adventure Therapy Onlus, and UISP Trentino, and with the patronage of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Municipality of Trento, District 11, and the Provincial Health Services Agency, a magical afternoon took place, centered on play and carefree joy at the artisan amusement park and sports for all, animated by the irresistible music of BandaStorta. In the evening, the children were breathless watching the high-wire circus show by Baracca Juke Box and ended the day pedaling nonstop in the Cycle Cinema set up for the occasion.

A symbolic representation of what Pediatric Palliative Care should mean for the minors under care. Day by day, achieving the best possible quality of life at that moment, together with their families, supported by the community, involved in their peers' activities.

In collaboration with Canalescuola, Castel Campo hosts the Summer Camp Week in the Woods  and supports the participation of some children in the activities.

STAR Children's Relief - Camp Ray of Hope

A week with teenagers affected by oncohematological conditions, in collaboration with the Romanian-American association STAR Children’s Relief.

Since 2015, Campo Base and STAR have collaborated to bring a group of over 25 campers, accompanied by volunteers and medical staff, to Italy for an unforgettable adventure.

2020

In 2020, Associazione Campo Base had to slow down its programming: due to the health emergency, many planned Recreational Therapy activities could not take place as scheduled during the spring and summer months (awaiting guidelines to decide on autumn programming).

But the association didn’t stop completely, and last weekend it launched a remote game to be played during the last weekend of quarantine, from May 1-3, in true Campo Base style. The Campo Base Champions Challenge 2020 required participants to complete games, puzzles, and challenges at home, sharing them to accumulate points with other registered teams via Facebook’s virtual platform.

Participation and fun, even remotely: apart but together.

The goal of the initiative was to provide a moment of real, inclusive, concrete, and shared fun, just like we do during our summer camps. The challenges were varied, with tasks suitable for all ages: from filming a player doing a somersault (where difficulty increased with the participant’s age!) to building paper flowers or machines powered by electricity.

The initiative was free and open to the public—anyone who wanted to participate could. Twenty-three teams played, with a total of 80 participants from 4 different countries, including many campers from previous Campo Base camps, as well as staff, volunteers, and donors. They submitted a total of 416 completed challenges over three days, and the game concluded with a Zoom awards ceremony where winners were declared. They won a kit for home crafts and games and a painting of Castel Campo by artist Marina Clerici Rasini, a board member of the association.

From the collaboration with STAR Children’s Relief comes the YETI project, where participants aged 15-26 who previously attended camp as campers follow a dedicated program aimed at preparing them for volunteering, responsible growth, and active citizenship.
